The fly fishing season really never ends, but the warm weather comes and goes. What does that mean? Well, it means you can get the same wonderful classes that I offer during the summer months year round. For example, if you want to learn how best to cast a "classic" Spey Rod, click here.

If you've got your eyes on learning how to fly fish this year, call me pronto. If you have a group you’d like to take the class with – women only, for example, your garden club, your Kiwanis Club, your executive staff – call me now and let’s get everyone together for a Saturday, Sunday or weekday excursion that will not only bring you all closer together, but give you experiences that you can tell your grandkids.

Individual instruction is still available for those who wish to learn fly fishing the right way or who want a casting critique. The fee for instruction is similar to guiding fees.

If you would like me to teach a group class in your area, however, call your local parks and recreation department and encourage its administrators to give me a call. Or if you have a corporate group or a club, get your officers or executives to invite me to teach. I offer classes for saltwater fly fishing, fly tying, river fishing, lake fishing and all forms of the long rods including spey casting. No matter who you are, there is a class for you. I hold women only classes, classes for the disabled and classes for beginning to advanced fly fishers. Remember, fishing belongs to everyone.

2008-2009 SCHEDULE

As some of you know, I'm a supporter of Project Healing Waters, the effort to help our veterans get rehabilitation through fly fishing. Every Wednesday, from 1 to 2 p.m., weather permitting, I teach fly casting to disabled veterans. The classes take place in the front of Walter Reed Hospital down in Washington, D.C.

CASTING FOR RECOVERY

For the past few years, I and several other guides including Phil Gay of Trout and About and Susan Eggert have assisted women recovering from cancer at fly fishing schools and days of fishing on the Smith Creek in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Casting For Recovery, founded in 1996, offers more than a dozen women a chance every year to enjoy the outdoors. Recently, the Chesapeake Women Anglers (CWA) fly-fishing club helped CFR pull off this extraordinary event that is a joy to participate in. One of the participants appears on this page. Katrina (above, right) shows her beautiful rainbow trout.
